Reviewing the historical weather data (1) from the Marla Police Station in 2018, there was no precipitation in January that year with a median rainfall of 6.6mm for the month. The highest recorded January rainfall in the area was 55.6mm in 1993.
There is no data available past 2018 due to the Marla Police Station weather station being decommissioned. This was the initial reason for erecting the Indulkana Weather Station: to replace the weather data previously available and provide the data to the local school and community.
In arid and semi-arid environments, weather is not only a typical topic of conversation, it is important to the animal inhabitants, flora and fauna. As with most deserts throughout the world, rainfall in Australian deserts is erratic from year to year and month to month.
