NYAPARI
Nyapari is located in South Australia about 20 km south of the Northern Territory border. It lies approximately 450 km south west of Alice Springs. The community is comprised of a small Anangu community located 15 km east of Kanpi, another small community, in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (the APY Lands).
The nearest major town is Alice Springs which is about six hours or 550 km to the northeast. It is 115 km east of Pipalyatjara and 95 km west of Amata. The people living in Nyapari are mainly Pitjantjatjara people, and itjantjatjara is the main language spoken at home and around the community. English is learned and spoken at school and in the clinic, office and store. The population of Nyapari ranges between 50 and 100 people, including a small number of Piranpa (non-Aboriginal) people who work in the community to support Anangu. All the people living in Nyapari are part of an extended family group.
